If laughter is the best medicine, Gordie Tapp has cured more country music enthusiasts than anyone else in the history of Canada. Tapp has always been an impersonator and a comedian, starting off with a stint in army uniform from 1942-46 on the \u201cArmy Show\u201d. Tapp moved into radio before breaking into the television medium.<\/p>\n

A founding member of \u201cMain Street Jamboree\u201d radio\/TV show out of Hamilton, ON during the 1950s, where he created the character “Gaylord”.<\/p>\n

By the time Tapp joined \u201cCountry Hoedown\u201d, the predecessor to \u201cThe Tommy Hunter Show\u201d, his well-known character \u201cCousin Clem\u201d had long been a part of his repertoire; although no one would have believed the popularity and fame the character would gain when Tapp took it onto \u201cHee Haw\u201d, leading Tapp into international stardom. Tapp\u2019s famous roles also included \u201cSamuel B. Sternwheeler\u201d, \u201cMr. Gordon the storekeeper\u201d, and \u201cLavern Nagger\u201d.<\/p>\n

His 1980 album, \u2018Both Sides\u2019, featured both his comedic and singing talents.<\/p>\n

While Gordie Tapp’s gift of laughter is uniquely country, his gentle sense of humour is known as being uniquely Canadian. He is the recipient of the Order of Canada and Order of Ontario.
